The word “Watamu” comes from the Swahili lagguage meaning “sweet people”. Located about 25 km South of Malindi. Was once a small musulman town today famous for being tourism destination and fishing. Its famous bays known as Blue Lagoon, Watamu Beach, Ocean Breeze beach to the reef and beach of Kaanani that estend upto the white beach Jacaranda. Watamu is an integral part of the Marine Reserve of Malindi and Watamu Beach. The Garoda beach and Turtle Bay are protected marine parks since this stretch of the beach act as a refuge for sea turtles around March being their reproduction month.
Infront of the small village full of many small local craft shops is located the famous love’s islands among increasingly rocky where one can enjoy nature walks and especially in low tides. In most auspicious days one can walk to the island of love that emerges only at low tides about 1 km from the beach.
During this escursion, you will visit the local village and and arrive at the island by foot. During this walk one can encounter incredible marine life such as starfish of various types and colors, shells, octopus moraines and puffers among others. Your lunch will be served directly on the white beach. When the tieds starts, you will be cruised across onboard of local dhows.
